My home inspection of Speedmaster heads

-
i went back and watched video again in there was no vavle seals on the head
You say that these seals are magnum style seal........so are they a positive seal that slide on the guide with a spring to hold them there or are they some sort of umbrella type seal?

ALWAYS!! This is how stock 360's with stock converters and 2.94's end up running 13.3's with 1.8 60 ft! ALWAYS something on the table.... LOL
Ooops, got away from SM heads talk....
Your back no questions not part-time but back!...
Don't you think it's high time you answer to your 13.3 to 11.8... :poke:...
I thought when you had your triumphant comeback you would not poke the bear and I would not kick your sand castle...

First and foremost I'm not bashing any Machinist! I just personally don't necessarily need to not leave anything on the table.. also it's my personal opinion that feel injections has a lot to say for the Magnum Motors...
In short, you seen what I did in the video, and that's how they are going on my car. Each to their own liking.

my remark you quoted poked a bear??? You got me there.... because it had no more meaning other than Fishman67's point of "always more on the table".

Look in the box of valves, springs, keepers. The seals are on top of each valve. 6:22 mark

Thanks i tried to skip through it several times and missed it.
Cheap positive seals.....I would use them!
If i bought it empty i would upgrade to a better positive seal.
thanks again for the mark on the video
And thanks for the video all together.:thumbsup:

I'm only two more members away from pulling their heads apart and not having any sticky valves and slapping these things on right out of the box...
Check out the 11 sec small block thread, carnage posted of damage from heli coils pulling out of rocker stand on Speedmaster head.

I'll be needing hold down clamps and the bolts for the Erson rocker assemblies I have. Seen some nice billet ones on Ebay for about $80, but for $180 or so I can have corrected geometry with the clamps, but I don't believe bolts are supplied. Seems like a fair price in my case, even if I gotta also buy some bolts.

Mopar A Engine Billet Rocker Shaft Clamps / Hold Downs

buy them direct with out ebay charging you tax....great set of rocker hold downs...they used to come with engraving on them....

Honestly you going to blame that on the Speedmaster head?... What was his lift on his cam? What RPM was he going at? How much spring pressure did he have? How much room did he have before coil bind?...

I just posted some info involving the Speedmaster head. It don't matter to me either way.
I will go stand in the corner now. lol :D

I agree, human error does not equal mechanical error..
I've been running a set of SM's for 2 years at over 600 lift, still happy.

I found a lot of different things besides heads that people pay a lot of money for and don't get them any further but put down something of the same quality that cost a lot less because they paid more..
Basically it makes them feel good about getting taken...
The above few posts from you regarding checking heads and valvetrain geometry etc. are nonsense man, lets clear up a few things:
B3 offers a service for mopar guys that is invaluable for the money and is a bargain. Do you need it?, The more lift/cam/rpm the more it becomes a real issue and I guess close is good enough for you.

A speedmaster head is just a cheap chinese knockoff of an edelbrock head with cheaper parts and a 20 year old design valve job. Will they work?, sure but they aint nothing special and the price reflects so, do you really think they would be sold so cheap if they were worth more $?. And don't give me the whole brand recognition thing because they got plenty of it as both procomp and now speedmaster and most of it ain't good.

You say guys that have spent more money on parts bash cheap stuff to feel better, well how about the guys that cannot afford nicer parts bashing on the guys who can because they are jealous lol.

There is an application for all parts and I own trickflow and speedmaster heads and they are not the same, just like bolting on a set of rockers is not the same as a B3 kit. Do what YOU WANT AND CAN AFFORD but quit bashing on the "internet gurus" who do this stuff for a living and are gracious enough to share their experience with you, it may just save you some time and trouble if you listen to them.

And finally I will get YR to buy you a cheeseburger if you promise to not be stubborn and learn something lol.

You shared some info but with no detail just that kind of Internet hearsay that starts people thinking that it was definitely the head or the Helicoil. Who the hell knows what it is? Maybe Edelbrock puts in better helicoils? Titanium helicoils?..

well here I have to defend myself I said nothing bad about the guru's and all the Machine Shop owners.. I said nothing bad about B3 except I thought it was a little expensive but again agreed that I didn't know it was a specific custom application blah blah blah. I said some people feel better about themselves because they bashed cheaper stuff. If I have to get more specific it's guys like me who are just looking for a small bump and performance and not looking to set the world on fire and didn't know there was a cheaper way to do it...
Bottom line is you know where PIR is, anytime you need to line your trick flow heads up against my speedmasters to prove something I'll be there unlike yellow rose...

And honestly I'm thankful for PHR and his analysis otherwise I would have probably not bought them and just believe what the internet said.. also 70 AAR Cuda with proof positive...

I posted the flow numbers I got.. nobody seemed to care.. They'll make great power for someone whose willing to make some chips fly and knows they're way around a valve job.

I think mine are going to be just fine the way they are for the most part. Again intended use is just some hot rodding a little bit of drag racing and having fun. Not trying to set the world on fire. I'm just glad I didn't pay twice as much with the same expectation of just having hot rod heads..

So throwing around things like "internet gurus" and "$180 for a rocker correction kit I'm in the wrong buisness" is saying nothing bad lol. As far as lining up with you whatever, why don't we just meet up at the schoolyard lol, maybe the lunchlady will serve up some cheseburgers. Feel free to pm me if you want to continue, I don't want to further derail the thread.

From what I am getting they are not out of the box, hand ported and valve job?

I’ll tell you I’m glad you posted them up.
Thanks!
This is the same ridiculous crap that gets everybody all jumpy about every little Nuance of a brand new head... or say it once I'll say it a million times if it wasn't for the gurus on these forums and the internet 90% of people would be just slapping these heads on and going...
Funny, that’s what most of us did. Then again, there was only the Edelbrock or Indy head sold loaded. My loaded Edelbrock heads were checked before installation and there just fine.
Edelbrock = (check) slap on and go.
Indy, take apart and fix everything.

So how many rockers have you had roll off the top of your valve before you knew about this kit???. Here I'll answer for you zero...
For years and years I never had a issue with shims. Sometimes it got weird cutting one in half to get it right but it worked.

Thanks Rumblefish!
Trouble is, I can't find where I posted my numbers ! :BangHead:

Maybe I could use a cheeseburger...
