Stop in for a cup of coffee

Arggggg. The battery us dead in the truck and it's parked in front of the wife's garage door. Quick throw on the charger. I wonder if that's not the problem with the truck loosing idle. Sometimes when I start it you have to re-learn the idle. I thought may be IAC but no Ses light. May be just a shorted cell in the battery.
IAC?

Maybe its just tired with all the cold and snow??? Might have to do a plug in if you keep having winters like this?? Or just move south for a couple months.

A 5 year old parts store battery. The truck sets outside and always starts in the worst weather. I'll throw a new battery at it today and see if the idle issue goes away. Taking bets?

I'm betting that if you throw it in, as cold as it is you will crack the plastic case. :poke:

My battery for the old cars that I use to jump others with wouldn't start anything during that real cold spell a few weeks ago... I brought it in to recharge it, and it was still pretty frozen... When it thawed out, it didn't need much recharging to get it to full charge...

Maybe it's just frozen... Try warming it up inside and see if it comes back...

So how does it LEARN idle?
It re-learns it. You just have to run the gas pedal for a few min. I slowly backed off the pedal a half dozen times and it stalled. Finally it picked the idle up.

I put a 20 amp charger on it for a half hour and it was at 80%. It's outside running now defrosting the windows. I'll test it in a bit. If it has a dead cell the tester will pick it up. A shorted cell usually not unless it's shorted when you test it. That's when I wish I had a carbon pile tester. Those will make a shorted cell act up for sure.

96 Dakota. Our 90's Mopar mini vans used to do the same thing.
My Duster idles rough sometimes. Can it do that?

Seriously though... Neon does some funky things. On start, sometimes idle seams a little rough and/or oil light stays on. Wont clear if I leave it run. But if I shut off and restart, it is fine every time. Also, sometimes at a stop the idle will drop low and gets rough. I ordered a Chiltons. Figure I will start with basic tune up stuff.

I am under the impression that any vehicle that is computer controlled and has fuel injection is subject to that process = no?
