Stop in for a cup of coffee

I'm thinking about going to the Mecum auction again today with my uncle. I forgot my camera in my car yesterday and couldn't take any pictures while I was there. We saw some cool and interesting things there...

There are two cars that he's interested in, the 72 Roadrunner and a 71 Charger 440 6 pack car.

An employee said that they are broadcasting it on MSNBC, I may wear my Detroit Red Wings jersey to get all the Blackhawks fans panties in a bunch (you should hear some of their comments...) :poke:

Look for me in my jersey on tv in case they happen to catch me in a shot...

My uncle had the winning bid on the 72 Roadrunner!

We bought it!!!!

Look for me in my Red Wings jersey on the rerun.

There was a guy bidding on another car about 10 cars before the Roadrunner was on the auction block that was a couple of seats away from us. I stood next to the bidding lady in my shirt and a camera guy was there, I may have gotten in the shot...

I'm not sure if they recorded the bidding on the Roadrunner as the guy wasn't in our face like the guys next to us. I was sitting next to my uncle when he won the bid.

That was at 1:00 PM and the auction started at 10:00 AM, so it's 3 hours into the auction... He was car # 93.1 (about 93rd in line for today's auction). You can watch for that number to come up on the broadcast.

He was going to travel to Texas when he saw that it was going to be there last month, but decided not to because of the distance and having to have the car shipped back here. Then he saw that it didn't sell there and was going to be up here, he took that as a "sign from god" that it was meant to be for him... (That's our story and what he's going to tell his wife...)

We were able to drive the car home right after he took care of the paperwork, luckily we drove together in the same car there and I followed him while he drove the Roadrunner home...

He only lives 20 minutes from where the auction was, so it worked out better for him as he saved on the shipping cost if he would have bought it in Texas and we were able to take it away as soon as he paid for it...

Here are the pictures of it at it's new home:

Sounds like a good combo.

I thought that I saw a post a while back where you said that you don't modify engines, just run them stock...

I'm glad to hear that you're going to do a cam, manifolds, and carb.... :glasses7:

Like I said earlier, a 400 is a good running engine. It can easily run with a 383... :glasses7:

well the exhaust manifolds are still stock type and the carb is still a factory TQ .....I swap factory parts around is basically what I do. LOL

That's ok.

Knowing how to mix-and-match the best stock parts together for optimum results counts...

that road runner is actually kinda unusual being a factory 400 car.

I have seen a lot of 340 cars ...not too many 400

of course doesn't matter because it has a 440 now

Oh yeah, I did get two negative comments on my Red Wings jersey from Blackhawks fans... :evil4: :evil4: :evil4:

:happy1: :happy1: :happy1:

No, it's not a 440... The ads are wrong, it doesn't have the little block of metal on the top left front of the block. We think that it may be the original 400 still...

We have to look into it better to verify...

I forgot to get a picture of the fender tag. He wanted me to post it for someone to decode. I'll have to get him to take one and email it to me so I can post it.

I thought of something. #-o

Between my brother, uncle, and me, we have a first, second, and third generation Roadrunner in the family right now...

Beep, Beep... :D

you would think the auction house would check and for sure. Not verifying the engine size is going to get them in a lot of trouble. There is already a case on a mustang where this guy thought he was getting a really engine of some sort.......turns out he paid for the rare engine but got a common one.

In the case of the road runner ....wont matter too much but with some cars that could mean the difference between 10 of thousands of dollars.

I don't think that it matters much in this case also.

The lady who processed the purchase mentioned that we should have said something before the auction started, but we got it just at the reserve, so I don't think that it would have mattered anyway...

Besides my uncle has plans to have a 440 built and installed in the distant future.

He's going to enjoy it as it is for a while...

He wants to find a nice old standard bore 440 and go from there...

Congratulations :color: !! Dang nice RR :cheers::cheers:

Yes they are VERY cool mopars !! :color:

Congrats on the RR Karl. Looks real sweet. What kinda commission did you charge him for your expertise?? LOL

na!! the beast is up on the roof next door pounding nails. got me up outta bed and thats a good thing,,, great looking day here. That is a nice car KK and looks like a very exciting time. Great story

Thanks for the compliments guys. It's my uncle's car...

He let me take it for a quick blast around hio neighborhood when we got it home.

We have to be careful driving it right now because we can't get a license plate until the title comes and it should arrive within a couple of weeks. Mecum has the title, but sends it in to be put in the new owner's name, so we have to wait for it to come in the mail...

Meanwhile we can't order license plates until it arrives (as far as I know - I don't think that we can get plates until then.)
