Stop in for a drink.

I spent a lot of time in the store yesterday. Annoying the staff... but whatever.

Amazing the number of whiskeys "Distilled in Indiana". I know you told me this, but I just started really paying attention. Especially since I am very interested in being as "local" as I can be.
MGP was the commercial distillery. Midwest Grain Products. They sold their juice to a huge number of upstart distilleries. THey need 2 year old Rye or 4 year old Bourbon to legally sell it as that. It has changed to Ross and Squibb and started selling a couple of their own labels. Remus, Rossville Union are 2 of their private labels.

The good thing about 'Scotch' is that is must be by law distilled and aged in Scotland for at least the first three years of it's life.

20 shots and a bucket to heave into afterwards
I likes me some Fireball
Saw that in the adult beverage dispensary.

My last shipment has arrived. CHeap per bottle but pretty tasty.

Ted and I drove down to Hy Vee on Blairs Ferry in Cedar Rapids to check out Dave Johnson's latest barrel picks. This is one I didn't expect to like so much but you never know until you sample. It's a good thing I bought 2 bottles. This one might not last very long. This one loves to set for 15 min or so to get happy. (like most do)

Nose:
Subtle sweet with a bit of barrel char. I get some frosting and almond. (I love to call it marzipan)

Palate:
Let it set it just get's better and more complex. It starts out with caramel with a creamy feel. Black pepper, and fades into notes of cinnamon and chocolate. There's a creamy mouth feel that makes you salivate wanting more. Those flavors last as long as I am typing (and correcting the errors). Cocoa flavor fades into the long finish along with a bit of oak and caramel. It's 118.1 proof and let's you know it early in the palate with a nice mouth warming feel but no throat burning or heartburn. There's a lot going on here, just take the time with it and enjoy the ride. All the flavors are subtle and none are overbearing. I love spirits like this. Wow, after 15 min of typing this it has turned into a creamy, caramel, chocolate candy. Enjoy!
