I have a fiberglass 6pak hood...cruising yes but I would like to be able to put my foot down and scare people...a mild street car.
I was looking for the 727 because it was mentioned to me that it might not hold up to the 318 after i built it the way i was going to...The 727 came with the hi-po 360 thats only reason I was asking...and Yea i gunna go threw any motor I buy... I had never heard of a Hi-Po lol thats why I was confused
ok ok...so the 904 will prolly be fine....now with the original post that I had what do you think i'll get out of the 318...I will prolly go with crazy's advice with the head work or any suggestions...
(keep the 318 go what .030 over throw the 360 Ported heads on it along with a cam and flat top pistons)
I know lots of guys racing 904s but they are puting tons of money in them to make them hold up. Why bother wasting money to tuffen up a 904 if he is going to already have a 727. Spend the money on your motor. I can smoke a stock 904 in my Duster in about 20 min. Got sick of laying under the car. If 904s are so nice how come they never put them behind a big block? Was wrong on the lower 1st gear. 727s have a 2.45 1st and 904s have a 2.70 1st witch they needed because most 904 cars were extremly high geared 2.94-2.76sI believe the 904 'most yrs' shared the same 1st gear ratio as the 727, others were even lower.
the 998 & 999 [904 family] have the lower 1st & 2nd gears...that swap into the 904 with ease.
They are raced all the time.

Funny you say that. Buddy of mine has a 70 dart w a 525 hourse 408 and had a TCI tranny blow at the strip. The drum broke while launching @ 5000 rpm pieces flew through the case up through the floor shattering his right foot. Very bad day. That kind of houre he should have had a shield.Yea you need a new trans guy.
The other problem with the 727 is the time bomb huge *** stock drum. More likely to explode compared to the smaller lighter 904 drum when that ***** is really spinning.

Tryin figure what Id have to do to a 360 to get it up to 400hp...
Thanks again Crazy....the "recipe" you listed i got most of that except converter...What if I added flat top pistons? they aint a bad price...and idk if I'm going to have to bore or not yet...I was told maybe .030-.040 over but will that kill me?
