    Cragar 5 on 4's were direct bolt, no unilugs. At least all the ones I sold in the 80's The unilugs were 4.5 and 4.75 circle. There may have been other patterns (4.75/5.0) that used that unilug stuff, 4.5/4.75 was the majority.

    Simple to check out one other thing. When the issue arises, Unplug the headlights one at a time, see if it resolves. That should identify whether the headlights are an issue with filaments touching.

    If you moved the crank clockwise looking at the front to engage the woodruff (which is usually about 1:30 to start), you retarded the cam. I'm not going to try and figure out the picture. The crank should have turned towards 12:00, counter-clockwise, to advance the cam.

    whiplash cams work just fine. Don't ask anyone that has put a purple shaft or any cam, cut on a 108, in at 100-102, close to the same approach. 72-73 340's can run really hard even with the lower compression.
