    A833 mystery

I took the cover off of my A833 because it wouldn't shift. I found a broken shift fork. But aren't there also supposed to be detent balls between the shift lever cams and the pin cylinder? I couldn't find them anywhere. Could these missing parts have been behind difficult shifting that...

    Mystery holes in 340

I have a couple of Fel-Pro head gasket sets, one of which is a 1008. Both of them are missing several holes that both my block and head have them. I have a 1970 340 with X-heads. The image below shows a couple of missing holes in red, and one hole in yellow that is a lot smaller than the...

340 cylinder head bolts need washers?

My 340 overheated and one of the heads warped. The machine shop says its because whoever put the engine together the last time didn't use lock washers on the head bolts. They said they could tell because the bolts dug groves into the head. Does this make sense? The ARP replacement bolts I...

All this excitement is going to kill me.

Last week my wife's post-chemo CT-SCAN revealed she is completely cancer free. Thank you for to all your prayers! Yesterday, we became grandparents. A beautiful 9-lb boy. They named him after me. The week after next I go in for open heart surgery. I'm not too crazy about signing up for...

    HEI module going spastic?

I just installed a new HEI module under the distributor on my 340 with the commerical heatsink. Now the engine runs rough at all speeds due to what feels like a misfire. I put a timing light to each spark plug wire and noticed something strange. On seven cylinders, I get what appears to be a...

    Ball n Trunnion Boot help

I ordered a BnT replacement boot kit Q-112 from oldmoparts.com but the new boot looks nothing like the old boot. I have a 64-65 833 so I assumed the BnT joint was from the same year. Can someone help me identify what I have?

    What is this noise?

It was only 40 degrees out in the garage this morning so I stuck a small space heater under the engine while I was working on it. A half hour later, a heard a periodic ticking noise from inside the engine. Could this be the lifters?

    Springs - what's my problem?

I was sold a set of springs that are marked P4510268 and P4510269 which would make them XHD make suitable for my 70 Duster. However, the forward sleeve is way larger than the ones I just took off the car. The bolts just flop around inside the sleeve. Any idea what that means?

Best Mopar engine of all time

What would you say was the best MOPAR engine of all time? The 426 Hemi claims the popularity title. The 340 was only around for five years. I would argue the 225 Slant Six benefitted far more people. Chysler even had some pretty respectable performance versions, some producing more HP than CU.

Wow - I have never seen car modeling like this.

These are so real they seem unreal, if that makes any sense. I wonder how long it took him to do all these? I wish we could get him to do this for a group of A Bodies. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24796741@N05/sets/72157604247242338/show/with/2346008881/

Expected idle with a Purple Cam

I'm not looking to start a word war over which cam is the best to use. I know Lunati and Comp make great cams for modern builds. But I'm stuck with what I got for now - I can't afford to drop another $400 into my car for a new cam. I'm restoring 70 340 Duster. No plans for the strip, I...

    Painting a Shark tooth grille

I've read of other members that haven done this a LOT faster, but my hands and my eyes don't work anything like they used to. This took me three full days just to tape. Between fixing the cracks, reconstructing tabs, sanding, taping and painting, this grille is a big time eater. At least I...
