I would like to replace my 484 purple cam in my 383 this fall. With all the lifter issues out there the last few years I don’t know if it’s a good idea. Has anyone had any luck with a new cam and set of lifters lately? Maybe I should look for a NOS set from the 90’s….lol
I had a Dodge Aspen when I was young. I dropped in a 383. Instead of getting a rear sump pan. I cut the section of crossmember out and boxed it in with steel. If they cut your cross member out more then a few inches past the lip I would replace it.If they only cut a few inches I would box it...
Has anyone use the Mancini Racing rear reartainer plate and rear seal on a 383-440? The instructions say to fold the side seals around the retainer and install. So the I guess the folded end of the seal gets squeezed between the retainer and the block? Does this sound right? And the side seals...
I don't think I have ever used the parts in the picture. So these parts are not suppose to be installed? Fel Pro instructions are poor. I am replacing it while the engine is in the car.So much easier with the engine out ...lol
Ok have you guys ever had a 383? Or had a mild or built 383? More torque and less money to get to 400-500 hp. I thought he was on a budget of 4-5k. You dont not need a stroker kit or aluminum heads to get 400-475 hp out of a 383. 400-475 hp out of a 360 will take way more money. A little heavier...

So just a stroker kit and aluminum heads you be in at 4k right ? If I did a small block I would start with a Magnum motor.Magnums already have closed chamber big valves heads . I have read you can do a little to them and like a 383 easy to make hp.
Yes a C body pan will work.I used a 67 Fury pan.It must be a center sump pan and I think all C body pans are..I would not use a high volume pump with a stock pan but maybe a high pressure pump. The radiator will not work unless you cut the lower radiator sump.
Look in front of the intake on top of the motor there should be a flat spot about the size of a Zippo lighter. On that flat pad is usally stamped 413,426,or 440.Oh and you may have to clean off some paint, grease, etc to see the numbers.
I would not run "unknown valve springs" Buy the springs to match the cam.I also would run a high pressure oil pump and Milodon center sump 7 1/2 oil pan.
smart idea..Do you have a source for the starter wire quick disconnects? Summit maybe? I will be installing the engine from the bottom so the install will not be too bad. It's just down the road starter replacement will be a royal pain...
I am tossing around dropping my 383 into my Duster this winter. What is the best or should I say the easiest way to replace a mini starter in an A body with long tube headers.Oh and I will be running a 727.
Also I have a Mopar Performance mini starter, how long do they usally last...
