Bostonian 71 demon

Tonight, I tackled several things on the car. First, the upper ball joints arrived, and they’re even better than I expected. Initially, I thought they’d be heavier than the old ones, but they’re only 0.2 pounds more. I could easily make up for that with titanium hardware or, worst case, shave off a few threads on the lathe. Next up was reaming the spindles to the right size and keeping everything square, which I handled on the drill press. Then I welded in the lower control arm mounts. After that, I went back to the ball joints and sorted out the new 772 cups. I wrapped up the night by pulling the windshield trim and the windshield so I can move forward with removing the dashboard and tackling the cowl and firewall.

Great work! Thanks for taking us along with this journey. Can't wait to see it finished

are the ball joints adjustable in any way? pieces remind me of parts from the old stock car catalogs.

In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, I did a thing! But seriously, I pulled the dash out tonight. Now I’ve got to decide whether to go with fiberglass or stick with steel. On top of that, I got the new cups fitted to the upper control arms. The car's also scheduled for the chassis shop, so I’ve got a hard deadline — all my work has to be done by the end of April. After that, it’s off to the body shop by the beginning of August to let the real pros take over. And as if building the Hemi wasn’t enough, everything will be ready in time for late 2026.

Plus, I ordered a fiberglass dash that weighs just 4 pounds, and I’ve got all the vintage contingency stickers I could ever need lined up. I’m also drawing heavy inspiration for the paint job from these Pro Stocks, so it’s going to look amazing once the new paint and lettering are done."

"I got a lot done this morning, removing small brackets and unnecessary parts, and tackling lighting holes that no one will ever see once the project is finished. I also received some tech help in the mail today from Herb McCandless, which will really help me make more progress. But before running out of welding gas, I managed to fill the holes in the firewall and made and attached the aluminum filler plates around the cage. Now I will switch gears to fill the vent and wiper holes in the new cowl, then focus on the transmission opening." before blasting the floor boards. I drew inspiration from the red-light bandit.

Holy **** .

I said earlier it will be a 100% an accurate nostalgia pro stock everything short of acid dipping
I'm going for sorta nostalgic pro stock and I really really appreciate the extent you're going and showing us how it's done. Great job !!!

This is looking great. I love the detail. I had the opportunity to spend a day with Herb McCandless, he is a great person. You're a lucky guy.

All of the work you are doing is pretty trick.
My hat's off to you for taking on this build and sharing it with us!

Today wasn’t a big progress day—no welding gas until tomorrow and had to handle chores with Mum coming to town this week. Still, I managed to rivet all but one plate and began planning my approach to filling the new cowl. I'm also considering relocating the master cylinder under the dash for easier valve checks, while figuring out how the pedals will fit with the under-dash bar. Plus, I made a new to-do list to keep everything on track.

The pedal assembly was on the agenda tonight. With the under-dash setup figured out, it was time to put the plan into action. I also designed an adjustable return spring mount to fine-tune the feel. Luckily, I ended up having the HD clutch arm that Herb McCandless recommended and was thrilled to find out it had the 6” center-to-center measurement. As well as I finished fabricating and installing the final riveted block-off plate. It felt good to finally get welding gas, even though a tweaker decided to relieve himself on my dually's wheels when I was coming back to the truck. Here’s the Ron Butler master setup I’m using as a reference, along with the transmission tunnel mess I’m not looking forward to tackling but is next weeks project.

What are you doing with the doors, gutting them ?

Yes I plan to gut them some more and send them off to be acid dipped finding a tank that can do doors is easier than doing a car.
I just got into mine yesterday, and the quarter glass .
I'll heat gun the crap out of mine, I don't think there's any companies near me that will do acid dipping
