So you`re ok, and cars not totaled. Correct.New Gas line split, sprayed gas all over the hot manifold and alternator.

It was a brand new piece of metal 3/8th line for that exact reason. The metal splitBEnd yourself up some brake line from the pump to close to the carb. I know why you are using a clear filter but a metal can type is much safer.

I was talking to him on the phone, told him about the clear filter.....BEnd yourself up some brake line from the pump to close to the carb. I know why you are using a clear filter but a metal can type is much safer.

Well, decided to buy this,
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FGVBR7/?tag=fabo03-20
For the price, I decided to stop fooling around trying to get the wrong one to fit.
It is short. But it’s what supposedly advance auto listed for that car. It’s metal up to about half way up the back of the alternator and then I have an 8-9 inch piece of rubber hose to the filter then another 8-10 to the carb feed. Looks like it split right beneath the flare.Seeing long lengths of rubber hose on both sides of the filter.
The metal line must be short and will be curious to see how/where it split.
The clear filter there is glass and and metal. Sold by Puralator and prob others too. Replaceble filter,
Chrysler sold cars with plastic filters for years. Not the worst thing world.
The fuel line really needs to run inside and up - made of all steel. Then just hose to make the connection to the filter and another to the carb feed.

What to do about the alternator wires IDK.
I thought for sure it had destroyed the thing. I used up a 5 lb fire bottle, a few buckets of water, and finally just slammed the hood down and kept dumping water on it. Hood was nice and hot so I didn’t get it opened for a whileSo you`re ok, and cars not totaled. Correct.
That's not short. Just ask her.8-9 inch piece of rubber hose to the filter then another 8-10 to the carb feed
What type of bottle? CO?I thought for sure it had destroyed the thing. I used up a 5 lb fire bottle, a few buckets of water, and finally just slammed the hood down and kept dumping water on it. Hood was nice and hot so I didn’t get it opened for a while
There is no hole. You cut it any size you want. And the part that goes around the fan is adjustable...Not seeing how this will fit better.
17" fan in a 14" exit area. Never mind the proejction of the top tank.

No I was referring to the metal line being too short. That's not short. Just ask her.
Seriously. Look at those pics.
The longest section of hose in the system is the one connecting the fuel feed from the frame rail to the pump. There's less than 1" gap between the fuel filter and the metal lines.
That is the wrong picture...There is no hole. You cut it any size you want. And the part that goes around the fan is adjustable...
Sucks Chris. Assuming the alternator was nothing special, the projected dollar cost doesn't seem to bad.Whole right side of engine for sure is where the damage is., gonna need all new wiring on that side, including plug wires, which were junk mix matched to begin with, alternator, fuel pump, probably got the brand new suspension bushings. All the plug wires on that side
appears to have spared the carb, radiator hoses.
so most expensive damage is probably the alternator.
The one I am getting is 19 by 22That is the wrong picture...
I may have a spare set of plug wires. I also still have the old harness, it was melted at the firewall in the under dash electrical fire the Previous Owner had.Sucks Chris. Assuming the alternator was nothing special, the projected dollar cost doesn't seem to bad.
Actually seeing the prices for some spark plug wires these days, that might cost as much.
The alternator wires will be a bit of a PIA. Remember that main alternator feed is connected to the battery. There's no fusible link in '64. Make sure you disconnect the battery. Negative first, then positive.
The metal line on the original engine is the same length as the one I bought this morning. About 12 inches if straightened out. So either the Previous owner bought the same line I did, or ??Thought I had a picture of a nice '65 B with poly, but this guy did the same thing. View attachment 1715783624

I have learned. Disconnect battery while doing any wiring on these old cars....Sucks Chris. Assuming the alternator was nothing special, the projected dollar cost doesn't seem to bad.

Sure seems like bad luck, but try to do a careful postmortum. Gas spillage plus a spark or very high heat source was needed to ignite it.I may have a spare set of plug wires. I also still have the old harness, it was melted at the firewall in the under dash electrical fire the Previous Owner had.
maybe this thing just doesn’t wanna be on the road again. Maybe this is a sign.
OK. Still think you're going to have to cut through the top of the box. Not that would be so bad.The one I am getting is 19 by 22
