What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Replaced my homemade top radiator hose (2 silicone elbows and a piece of chrome sink drain pipe, with a soldered bung for a temperature switch) with a Gates 20630. It's a reasonable fit once 1.5" is removed from the radiator end. The Autocoolguy PWM controller uses a sensor in the outlet of the radiator, not the inlet, so I didn't need the switch any more.
O'Reilly actually had a Gates hose listing for '68 & '69 383 Darts, but apparently it's a mirror image (radiator top connection is on the left, and my aluminum radiator is on the right!)

Maybe I’ll be able to take it out this weekend. Since I have been retired, I seem to be way more busy! Good thing is I can do more upgrades during the winter!

Washed it, aired up the front tires that have to support the iron big-block, then drove to the Steak&Shake for the Friday night cruise-in. Lots of interesting machines including a '67 Nova with a 10-71 blown 572 that dynoed at 1025 hp  Not bad for a GM... you can see it at the right.

Spent some time in the garage today. Sanded, (etch) primed and painted my new (to me) Wheel Vintiques 15" X 7" (sbp) Rallye wheels.

Been running my 65 cuda for Over A year after I removed the choke and choke shaft so finally (out of boredom) decided to make "press in plugs" flush to inner wall to fill the shaft holes and possibly smooth the Flow into the Primaries ... or just make it look good as if anyone sees it but me :)
Love this 650 CFM AVS2 that sits atop of the Edelbrock D4B on my 273 Commando... Just did not need a "choke" here in the Arizona desert... starts instantly and runs fine...
Redish crude arrows at the plugs...
Ugh, now I'm bored again... running out of stuff to do with cuda.. oh well, back to drinking Beer !!!

Whoa !
You are going to have sand everywhere in your garage even with it tarped off.

That sand and fine dust gets into everything, along with the rust dust you are blasting off.

What are you going to breathe for fresh air in that enclosed space. If blasting with sand, silicosis is a big concern too.

Job best done outside and use a charcoal respirator.

Can understand if you are in a residential area, but a plan B may be in order. Could take that frame to a local blaster or the people that do the dustless blasting and have them do it up for you.

Good luck on your project.

Was just looking at the picture of your roll up door, sand and fine dust will get into every one of those small wheels in the tracks for that door.

That sand flies a long ways under pressure.

i had to go get two new winter tires put on a set of rims, so i needed something with a trunk
so, i drove the duster around

Pulled and inspected five of the plugs (Autolite 85's)... #7 is somewhat dark, especially compared to #1, 3, 5 and 8 which are uniformly slighly rich. May just be a fuel distribution issue with the Edelbrock air-gap manifold - or maybe there's a small intake leak and it's sucking a bit of oil. Who knows. Nothing obvious.
Plug #2, 4 and 6 (listed in increasing order of difficulty) I'll leave alone for the moment. #2 is very close to the alternator stud, #4 has to be reached from underneath, and the infamous #6 only through the hole in the inner fender ;)
Also replaced the thermostat housing bolts with 3/8" studs to lower the chance of stripping the aluminum pump housing on future disassembly, and tightened a few hose clamps.

Drove to a small car show in Bakersfield, Mo. Naturally there were sprinkles of rain off and on, although there has been no rain for a week and none is predicted for another week :(
At least I got better fuel mileage, almost all at a steady 60 mph cruise... 67.5 miles on 7.3 gallons. That's a whopping 9.2 mpg!
