Went to put the air cleaner on and discovered this QFT 950 body has a 5/16" carb stud thread instead of the 1/4" I'm used to. Not hard to fix - grabbed a long 5/16" bolt with one end threaded, screwed it in and measured where the top should go, cut it off and threaded the other end with a 5/16 die.
Now I just need a fancy looking wingnut

Carb in its new home. Can't even see all that shininess... will probably try it out tomorrow. Hope the .100" butterfly holes are big enough, otherwise it'll have to come off again to make them larger... DSC_2482.JPG

Made a 280 mile round trip and 6.5 hours in my '75 Valiant through beautiful 'merica rural highways all for a dirty old /6 Offy intake to put on the '74 Valiant I'm do'n up for the kids... I love remembering how big and beautiful this country is.

Rebuilt my first alternator (more like refurbished). Took it apart and cleaned up the copper connectors and replaced the brushes. Cost $11, half of that was shipping from Rock Auto. Took it for a spin and it's charging again.

Started working on fitting the new fuel cell. Of course, it's just different enough in size to not be able to reuse the mounting straps from the old cell. Have to add the pump return fitting yet.
                Getting closer....

No sir, I have not. This car was bought as a roller and it has literally been a drag car since new (72 Demon) so it's set up with/for a cell. I just didn't trust the foam in the cell and it was pretty beat up so got a new one.

I just took my Dart for a spin with the new 950 carb... other than the float levels being a gnat's ass high, I didn't even have to adjust the idle speed for my Big-Ass Cam (TM)! And that annoying lean flat-spot barely off idle (that I could never tune completely out of my old carb) is gone.
Now if Autometer (who charged me $122 for a new AFR gauge after having it for 8 days and then telling me they can't find a problem and it's not repairable by them anyway ) will SEND me the new gauge already, I can see what the AFR is doing. But I doubt that will need any tweaking either

The wife was gonna visit her sister after church, and well, I wasn't

                          So we drove separate
She took the charger, I took the duster

On the way out of church she waved me down..."do a birthday burnout for colleen"

So needless to say, I lit em up pretty good

Attended the 2020 Twisted (Axle Car Club) Color Tour. Approximately 230 miles through Michigan's "thumb".

                            We met at sunrise

Paul had to break away from the rest of the tour, as his kids had another engagement (power wheels "racing").

Last weekend I changed the voltage regulator, and finally got around to changing the points. This weekend I changed the left rear wheel bearing and checked the differential fluid. Took the car out for a drive, and it is running even better. Didn't realize how much the voltage regulator would affect things. Cured a lot of my electrical gremlins. Only pictures I took was when I painted the new battery tray. Touched up the fender tag as well. Had to match the paint from a chip, and it is close enough for small touch ups.

Making another push to get this 67 fastback painted. Pulled the suspension and spending the day doing final sanding and cleaning. Plan is to shoot soon.

Last few days, I was working on Re-Oiling my K&N Air
INTAKE Filter! Over the Many Years I have done this to quite a few filters of this type... But this time used a Different CLEANING & OILING KIT... My last kits used Rattle Can Aerosol Oil ... This time I went to a Measured Bottle where I felt I had more pinpoint control as to where I put this Redish oil...Just saying I Liked this Kit... And me having COPD, I shy away from Aerosols...
YES, I cleaned it first... and let it Dry a FULL day even though the Dry Arizona Desert ~Heat~ probably had it done in an Hour but the Oil wicking (bleed) works Best when absolutely DRY !!! So I Oiled it the Next Day... and then let it wick (Bleed) another day...
Bottom line, Love the Outcome & Give this Kit Two Thumbs Up over the kits I have used in the past... But I'm Not saying the other kits were bad either :)

Removed the choke cable I'd installed in my dash, since my new carb doesn't have a choke. :p
Also removed my left fender turn signal indicator - the tiny bulb had a broken wire, not enough to solder to (although I tried). Fortunately #330 bulbs are readily available, at least by mail.
It's just as well I was looking at it, because I discovered that my left rear turn signal bulb was burned out too! That's a common #1157.

Got the new fuel cell installed and buttoned up. Had to make new mounting straps. Their paint color is actually red and matches the Optima battery, fuel cell cap, and car exterior (not sure why they look orange in picture). New Ni-Cu fuel line run from pump under trunk to regulator on RH inner fender. Now try to figure out that pesky fuel pressure gauge mounting on the cowl. Going to be a challenge as the -3 hard line doesn't quite fit between the slots in the cowl. 20201018_201539.jpg

The replacement AFR gauge from Autometer arrived ahead of schedule, so I connected it and put it back in the dash cup.
Also a billet aluminum knurled air-cleaner nut ($8.95 shipped on ebay)- looks much nicer than the wing nut, although I had to shorten my homemade 5/16" stud by four threads since the new part does not have an open end.
Of course it's been raining all day, so not going anywhere in the car!
