    [Found!] Window crank handle

I need a window crank handle for 74 Swinger (unless it can be fixed?). @limegreen70 is selling some (ad here) but his inbox is full. I need the one with the tapered grip.

    Honda Odyssey whining noise

Not Mopar but I trust y'all. My 2006 Odyssey started making a whining or whistling noise. It doesn't start until after 20 minutes of 65-70mph driving. It stops momentarily when my foot is on the brake, and it stops when I am changing lanes to the right. It goes away when I slow down. Ideas?

Replace light tube in timing light?

Has anybody replaced the strobe in a modern timing light? I have an Actron 7529 (made by Bosch), inductive timing light with dial-back and tachometer. The light quit working, so it still reads RPM but can't be used for timing. I asked the manufacturer how to get a replacement strobe, and they...

    Paint hazy after coolant spill

Long story short, I got coolant on my hood and now the paint is hazy and rough. This is original 1974 E5 red paint. Immediately after the spill I washed the car and applied Meguiar's cleaner wax. That helped temporarily, but over the following weeks it clouded over again. Should I try the...

Troubleshooting stumble at idle in gear

It "feels" like an ignition problem, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it. I may be missing something easy. Here's the problem. After installing my new (reman) Super Six BBD carburetor, I have an intermittent stumble at idle, only when in gear (never in Park or Neutral). Some days it's...

    Distributor recurve

I'm rebuilding the distributor on my car to adjust the timing advance. My driving is mostly at lower RPM, almost never above 3000. What is a good starting point for total mechanical and vacuum advance on this build? - 1974 Dart with 904 transmission and 2.71 differential - 225, rebuilt with...

    Evans waterless coolant

Could Evans waterless coolant cause my engine to run consistently too hot? Has anyone gone back from Evans to 50/50 and found lower running temperature? I rebuilt my slant last year and decided to splurge on this non-water coolant while the water was all out of the block. Ever since then it's...

    Anybody know what this is?

Not a joke, sorry. :-) I found this buried in my yard. It's about 4 inches long, made of iron. I soaked it in naval jelly and chipped off most of the rust. If you look close you can see it was sharpened on one side. I tried Google reverse image search, but nothing came up.

    fuel leak from pump outlet

I disconnected my fuel line at the pump outlet to conduct a fuel pressure test. It tested good (about 4 psi) but now that the line is reconnected there is a leak. I believe the problem is on the pump side of the fitting, not the flared tube end, because I have swapped the flared tube connector...

Super Six install on 1974 Dart

This thread will document my project to install the "Super Six" 2-barrel setup on my 1974 Dart, originally equipped with a Holley 1945 one-barrel carburetor. Why I'm doing this: 1. The Super Six and Carter BBD carburetor should improve the general performance of the engine. I had already...

No room for new throttle shaft bushing

I have a junkyard Carter BBD that came with a Super Six setup I plan to install on my Dart. The throttle shaft has a bit of play, so I bought a kit to install a brass bushing. The problem is the hole in the throttle body is offset so there's not enough aluminum on one side (see picture). Can...

    Where to connect AFR sensor?

What's the easiest/best place to hook up my new AFR sensor? I suppose it should be powered when the ignition is in RUN, and of course it needs a ground as well. The sensor is right next to the starter, so I'd prefer to wire it in somewhere on the firewall if that makes sense.

    Air Cleaner Temp Sensor

This is the gadget that controls the vacuum signal to open or close the door that lets ambient or warmed air into the air cleaner. Mine leaks vacuum. 1. Is there any hope of fixing it? How does it work? 2. There are many identical-looking parts available at widely varying prices, but are...

Headlight switch knob fell off shaft

I pulled the knob to turn on the headlights, and the knob came off in my hand. The switch still works normally but now I have to grab the triangular ridged shaft. Does the knob just glue onto the shaft? I don't see any other means of attaching it.

    Suddenly no electric

I pulled the Slant out of my '74 Dart for a rebuild a few months ago, and just today got everything ready to fire it up again. The electrical system is all stock. Last night the ignition system worked; we got spark in a spark plug grounded to the cylinder head to set the "static timing" on the...

    How to clean oil pump

Motor mounts: how to replace biscuits

I got my new motor mount biscuits (for a Slant on a 1974 Dart). Is there any special trick to removing the old and installing the new? My thought is to beat out the old ones with a big screwdriver and a hammer, then press the new ones in with a large socket or something, and finally bend the...

    Steering coupler basic questions

I need to remove the power steering gear and I assume I should rebuild the coupler while I"m at it. My plan was to pull the column aft just enough to separate everything. I loosened up the steering column by removing the four bolts on the clamp plate under the dash and loosening the three...

    Fuel Gauge Sending Units compared

I posted this on slantsix.org but I thought I should share it here too. There have been several threads here about the aftermarket sending units not working quite right with the factory gauge. In particular, it reads full when full, empty when empty, but at mid-ranges the aftermarket unit...

    [Found!] granddad pickup

I'm looking for a daily driver pickup in the Maryland/DC area. This is the truck your dad/granddad bought in the 80's. He took good care of it and kept it rust-free, but it may have a few dents and scrapes. Ideally it's a slant six automatic shortbed. It's not flashy but it's a good solid truck.

Clean out dirt from rear window pocket?

Any ideas how to get dirt out of the pocket inside the quarter panel skin, forward of the wheel? It's a '74 Swinger that will once again be my daily driver as soon as I finish this body repair. Background: The rear window sits inside the forward part of the quarter panel skin. To deal with...

    Rocker Molding Clips

My 1974 Swinger has a 1 1/8" metal molding or trim piece along the rocker panel. I'm posting to let people know what the clips look like and how to remove the molding. Here's where it was on the car. In addition to the clips, the molding is held on by a screw at the front and another at the...

    Door too low on striker

On my '74 Swinger, the passenger door looks perfect when closed but hits the striker about 1/8" lower than it should. It lifts up into position as it rides onto the striker. This makes the door a bit hard to open and shut (my wife and kids complain about it). To my novice eye, the hinges...

[WANTED] 1973+ split bench seat push-button bezel

Are you getting rid of a split bench seat? I need the plastic bezel that goes around the button you push to lean the seat forward. I'd buy two if you have them but I only really need one. The application is a '74 Swinger but I think any 1973 or later A-body split bench seat would have the same...

    Steering wheel telescopes but shouldn't

While replacing my ignition lock cylinder I noticed the steering column will pull out about a half inch if I pull aft on the wheel. The shaft comes aft with the wheel but the coupler stays in place. Here's the shaft fully pushed into the coupler: And here is the shaft pulled out by pulling...

How to remove molding at rear edge of vinyl top

This is the molding that goes from the bottom of the C pillar then across the Dutchman panel. At the C pillar there is a screw. Farther back there are a couple of plastic clips. But about an inch forward of the corner, there's something keeping the molding on. What is it and how do I get it...

Saginaw power steering pump whine and leak

I replaced my power steering pump today because it was whining and leaking. I haven't identified the source of the leak yet, but it did seem to leak out by the shaft when I set it pulley-side down on the bench. The "new" pump came from a donor car and looked a little rusty inside, so I don't...

    what are these noises?

One is a steady whine that follows engine rpm, and the other sounds like crickets. I suspect the steady whine may be coming from the power steering pump, which leaks fluid. View My Video
