I here ya on the flatrate thang. Sounds like your doing it as right as you can with a bigger welder. .024 wire probably wont work with that welder.
Thanx guys ,I’ll try and get some pics on my phone and figure out how to upload them , you know no patience thing

Ok I was thinking that the wheel wells should look like your inner fenders Fred , so am I obsessing to much over something people won’t see , I was going to skin them with short strand fiberglass in case of pinholes
Bondo works better for me or glazing puddy. Bondo is cheaper.
Not there so can't tell but are you using weld through primer on your over lap so all the un welded bare metal is coated?

No over lap butt welding .

No over lap butt welding .
OK now I see thought you were plug welding.
Yes your Dad is right Patience or will worp the panel but not that big of a deal in the tubs.
You can use the hard grinding discs to take your weld down then the soft discs to finish it off.

You guys are the best happy Easter ! Thanx
Have a good one Biff I'm not much help but will do what I can. Look up Sodium bronze wire for the wire feed I think that's what it's called might be better for what your doing with that big of a welder.

Oh there in and tacked in place , spot weld ,spot weld ..............grind ,spot weld .......I am just not a patient guy , comes from years or flat rate can’t shut it off .
I feel your pain. I am the same way from flat rate. The guys I work with now joke with me because my lunch is gone before they start but that was learned from flat rate also. You will get it in the end.

I eat my lunch on my tool box with one hand and a wrench in the other. LOL

Yeah I worked flat rate myself and you're always fighting that dam clock. Most of the time you made your money with your pen and good writing skills.

I used to do that when in the auto glass trade. Sandwich in one hand and steering wheel in the other and a bottle of coke (that ages me) between my legs heading to another job and ripping down the highway. It's a wonder I'm still here to tell about it lol.

and don't forget in the body trade if the insurance adjuster stops in the shop and sees you didn't do something according to the estimate your *** is grass. like when you figure out how to do things without pulling the car all apart they will dock you hours. I remember when a journeyman was when you could do things faster than what the book said and was able to make a decent wage. Not now, or I remember when replacing a windshield you could make good money doing it but not now. I remember when doing paintless dent repair I made good money but now they think everything should be paintless dent repair and you have to fight the insurance company because the paint cracked trying to save a dent. Or the farmers truck comes in full of mud and disgusting and you spend an hour cleaning it so you can work on it and don't get paid for that.
Sorry guys burnt out on the whole flat rate deal.

And sometimes you wait at the parts counter for what seems like ages. I laughed at some of the trim jobs only paid .2 or .3. Cripes it took that long to get the car in your stall and then wait for the parts. Then they wonder why guys leave the trade. That's when I would punch off the work order and then punch back on and make up some **** and bull story to help cover your time. Like I said.... you make money with your pencil. You had to so you could make a living.

Pencil pushers. your smarter than I was Mark the only time a pencil was used at wok was when the The boss butt kissers would stab me in the back with one. LOL

I guess I'm lucky where I worked. I wouldn't want to work hourly unless you could pay me the same wage I make flatrate and that aint gonna happen. Young guys are still knocking it out of the park. My painter friend made 6 figures last year. Good body guys are making 70,000. with some perks and health insurance. My business made forty dollars this year. LOL

OOPs wrong button. Yep good money as long as work was steady.
Yup. This place is growing like crazy. Per ca-pita my area is #2 for growth in the united states if I remember correctly. Lots of work and begging for qualified mechanics.

I'll stay here I like the set back and enjoy life and no money kinda life. After raising kids about half way through there life I realized working 24/7 is great if you like a new home and nice furniture and cars but never have time to enjoy it or worse miss the great moments with the kids.
