Stop in for a cup of coffee

Looks good. I hope to be that close before snow flies.
I am so glad that part is dun, all the wet sanding and prep work on the radiator suport and inner fenders was back braking , and the fire wall..... memikie is happy it is over .. I bet I don't have to do that much prep time to paint her

So,what did you fix?
Front beam/rafter plate was the complicated part. It had been scarfed previously with only overlap on the internal 3x4. No real joint at the corner either.
Additionally that end of the porch had walked a bit out of the joist and rafter pockets, some rot in the siding, some severe decay in the corner post, and the neighbor's roofer had busted the edge slates about 10 years ago. :(
But the real challenge was bracing it so it stayed together while I worked on it. Getting it to move a bit back into the house was above and beyond, and the fact I was even partially successful is just lucky.

Im not wet sanding, engine bay is full of wire wheel tracks and some rough weld repairs. Its getting cleaned, scuffed, primed and scuffed with scotchbrite.
I will spend the time on the shell, but the engine bay seems like a lot of work to be hidden with an engine.

I agree, I have not painted in 10 years so I did go over board on this just to make sure it went well, my son Creed said the same thing you did, he is 36

Internally, the beam repair looks like this. The angle cuts on the tips lock it in. Glued and screwed (2 ledger locks) keep it from moving apart or bending outward.
Then the full 1" finish boards provide some bending resistance.

You'll have no regrets.
Should have redone my engine bay's paint properly...one day....

Everyone have a dandy day your way  be careful and enjoy life like you mean it

Morning all. A spirited conversation this morning I see. Dang, my coffee is cold already. A lot of backreading.
Hey Mike. I'll be more carefull with any X in the future. That was past my bedtime. That thread's gone to hell anyway. Poor guy just wanted to know some history... LOL.

We should start a thread on alternator theory. I'll need some help on that.
I think it works like this.
Alternator output equals demand. That I'm sure of.
Both lights and motors try to draw a certain amount of power.
But if the voltage drops at the light or motor, they still try to pull the same amount of power, and current demand goes up.
^ That's what I'm not as sure of.
If so, then we can apply Power = Current x Voltage.

So that's how we can figure much flows into the car from the battery or the alternator.

:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: Got a guy from my Church coming by at 10am. He's one of them Poor/Cheap guys. Bringing his own parts and want to stay, while I put brakes on his Scion XB.....:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Lol gave up on it and un subscribed. Bet it gets over 100 opinions I mean posts.

No harm, I deleted my post anyway. It didn't make as much sense as I thought it did when I wrote it. I think the op was having issues and thought they could be corrected with a volt meter but he really didn't say that. I hate reading between the lines and making assumptions. Many open a thread and then disappear from the site and the problem solvers here are left to our own imaginations. I ask a lot of simple questions right off the bat to get things going in the right direction. As you well know these threads can go sideways in a real hurry.

So one of the guys at coffee has been looking at old Mopars for a month. He's been all over the Midwest looking. Well looks like he found one three hours away. Each time he thought he had one my best friend who goes to coffee say "Well you can borrow Craig's truck and enclosed trailer and go get it". I smile and say no. The guy wanting to borrow has never driven with a 24 ft trailer and ain't learning with mine. I then look at my friend who just bought a 150K Cobalt, hey we want to go to the lake and want to borrow your boat. The look on his face, Ya how'd that feel. I'm going to call him later and tell him to knock it off.
I'd take the guy, but last winter I took him to see the 55 Chevy at the restoration shop, 100 mile drive. He started talking when he got in the car and didn't stop until we pulled in. We walked around the shop and he hardly said a word, a lot like coffee. We got back in the car and he talked all the way back. Heck I was doing 85 just to get home. I tried the radio, the window down, nothing shut him up. No way am I riding seven hours, sorry. I don't like it when people offer up my vehicles for others to use...not nice.

Thanks Mike. I did add a picture this morning from the '83 Imperial brochure. Blue-green LCD digital dash! Voltmeter looks light it has a red warning light in it as well. That looked so high tech then. (Still not bad, just not for me.)

I was going to click on a button to respond but I couldn't find a fitting one. Sounds like it's time to put the hammer down.

It's too bad. Our electrical systems are quite simple but there's lots of places for issues to hide. To compound the issue is folks that don't know or understand how the system works. The system works ok for a 50 year old system as long as everything is perfect. (which it's usually not) Corrosion and bad grounds are a huge issue. (don't ask me how I know.) LOL
You know how fast headlight bulbs blow out at 18 volts?:rofl:

Gotto wonder if they had called the ammeter an ammeter instead of an 'alternator' gage, would a lot of us been less confused? I think so.

Also interesting that voltmeters have been around since the discovery of electricity and are as simple to manufacture as ammeters. For some reason the manufacturers chose to run current through the meter in the dash. It really doesn't matter what part of the electricity we monitor. How about the Millions of cars that just had a red light. Heck, the charge meter in my 66 hasn't been hooked up for years. If the turn signals get slow I'll know I have a problem!

Almost caught up...
That floor panel is a PIA. I cant see where the spot welds are Due to the rust so have to chisel them out slowly! An the Valient panel that is supposed to be the one will need a ton of massaging to fit!
Run a sander over them. Flap disc on grinder works well. Drill at the low spot/dimples

I wish I knew how to weld. You know they have a huge auto mechanics/body shop vo-tech school here.
I feel they miss the boat not having weekend "how to classes" showing guys like me the basics.
I thought every day was the weekend for you. :poke:

I taught myself. Actually not hard to do it is all in practice.
x2

I got a gift the other day from a friend but i am not sure how I feel about it. Yet

probably need to cut the dash to install. No F'n way!

There are no speakers because I have never had a radio in it.
I put one of those 'stereo' single speakers in dash where my original was. Sounds like crap, but that could be the radio.

Are you calling other galaxies on that thing??

Its almost time for a big bowl of honey bunches of b oats with strawberries.

Namnamnam
Discount store across the street had them. I killed a couple boxes. Today I made oatmeal with craisins.

nice job!

Good Morning

Bigger tool box doesn't make a better mechanic. Many of them think so.
